The Strawberry

by Ed Barnes

It’s commonly known that THE STRAWBERRY is a crayon lithograph. However, the story I was told is Mark Trout took damaged versions on the right and made good versions with just the image part by trimming off the top. This is not necessarily true! Thankfully, Mark is alive and never admitted to trimming this label. Below is a print where only the image part was printed. I find this interesting since the "inner" below is just about the right size for an inner. After careful inspection both the "inner" and "outer" use the same image. Thus, one could conclude the "inner" was made from the same stones and the text was masked off.
